Opening the 18th Muscat International Book Fair

Muscat -The 18th version of Muscat International Book Fair was opened today under the auspices of Darwish bin Ismail al-Balushi, Minister Responsible for Financial Affairs. The opening ceremony, which will run through till March 8th, was attended by a number of their highness, ministers, advisors, undersecretaries, officials, intellectuals and literary men from inside and outside the Sultanate.

During the opening ceremony the book titled ' Under the Shadow of Our Predecessors ' by the Ministry of Heritage and Culture.

During the tour, the chief guest and companions toured the different books on display and publishing houses from the Sultanate and neighboring countries.

More than 500 Arab and foreign publication houses are taking part in the Fair, some of which for the first time.

The Fair includes a number of cultural activities, through, literary and art activities organized in collaboration between organizing committee for the 18th Muscat International Book Fair and SQU, Literary Forum ,the Cultural Club, the Omani Association for Writers and Literary Men, the Omani Association for Libraries, Bait al Ghisham Publishing and Translation House Establishment.

Darwish bin Ismail al Balushi, Minister Responsible for Financial Affairs said this year is characterized by wide participation from bookshops and publication houses from inside and outside the Sultanate. He added that such diversity in books and new publications provides book readers with many books. The modern technology is also used in the exhibition.

The exhibition is held on 7200 square meters that accommodate 800 pavilions at the four halls for display.

The number of titles on the website of the Fair is 140,000.

The Fair will be open for everyone from 10.00 am to 10.00 pm straight excluding Friday which will be from 4.00 pm to 10.00 pm. Wednesday 27th February, Sunday and Tuesday 3rd and 5th March will be dedicated for students only from 10.00 am to 3.00 pm. Saturday, Monday and Wednesday 2nd, 4th and 6th March will be dedicated for females and students from 10.00 am to 3.00 pm.
