North Korea nuclear test

Reports that North Korea appears to have conducted another nuclear test is a disturbing escalation of the regime’s provocative and threatening behaviour.

This third test is in direct defiance of United Nations Security Council resolutions that prohibit such tests.

The North Korean regime must be condemned in the strongest possible terms for conduct that seeks to destabilise the Korean peninsula and beyond.

The regime continues to spend scarce resources in pursuit of nuclear weapons and ballistic missile capability while the long-suffering North Korean people struggle through lives of unimaginable adversity and poverty.

President Kim Jong Un should be taking steps to improve the lives of the North Korean people rather than continuing down the past of the pariah state facing long isolation from other nations.
