Kuwaiti National Assembly speaker hails UAE firm position towards his country

Kuwait:  Ali Fahd Al Rashid, Speaker of the Kuwaiti National Assembly (Majlis Al Umma) has hailed UAE's fixed and firm position towards his country during the occupation of Kuwait, referring to the historic role of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, who supported the Kuwaiti rights and affirmed that invasion of Kuwait is prejudicing the whole GCC.

In a statement carried by the Kuwaiti news agency (KUNA) on the occasion of his visit to the state leading a high-profile parliamentary delegation, Al Rashid hailed the courageous position of the UAE's president, government and people towards his country during the invasion, "They helped Kuwait and supported its right as well as hosted Kuwaitis in their country." He said that the positions adopted by Sheikh Zayed and the Rulers of the Emirates towards his country were always steady, strong and well-established, recalling the famous words of Sheikh Zayed: ''Kuwait is one of the countries which formed the Gulf family in the framework of the GCC, so if anything bad happens in Kuwait, we, as the GCC members will be united against it, no matter what will be the consequences,...... We are one soul, and if one part is affected the rest of the body will suffer." He added that UAE was the starting point for the march of the Gulf Cooperation Council since it translated the vision of the late Sheikh Zayed and the late Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah towards the federation of the Gulf countries on May 25th, 1981 in Abu Dhabi and that was the beginning of the Gulf Union led by the leaders of GCC countries to achieve the ambitions and aspirations of the sisterly peoples.

He described the ties of both countries as ''historical'', adding that ''Kuwaitis would not forget the time when UAE people opened their doors for them during the invasion of Kuwait in 1990 as well as their charitable initiatives.'' The speaker stressed that Emir, Government and the people of Kuwait support UAE in all its issues.

He also hailed the wise leadership of the UAE and the leading role, it plays locally, regionally and internationally, referring to the UAE's renaissance which holds an important position regionally and globally by adopting a balanced and wise policy.
