Melkite Catholic Eparchy of Australia and New Zealand


It was with great sorrow that we learned of the death of The Most Reverend George Riashi, BCO, formerly Archbishop of Tripoli in Lebanon, and Eparch Emeritus of Australia. His Grace fell asleep in the Lord in Lebanon near 12 noon (AEST) on Sunday 28 October 2012.

The Holy Eparchy is forever indebted to the late Archbishop for his apostolic labours in Australia and his pastoral concern for the Melkite Faithful in New Zealand.

On Saturday 1 December 2012, at 6:00 pm a Pontifical Liturgy followed by the 40 day requiem prayers (Genez) will be offered at St John the Beloved Melkite Church, Greenacre, for his eternal repose.

His Grace will also be remembered at all Holy Liturgies to be celebrated in all the Melkite Catholic Churches in Australia and New Zealand Sunday 2 December 2012. Details to be announced in parish notices.

His Excellency, Bishop Robert Rabbat, Eparch of Australia and New Zealand, will receive condolences on both Saturday1 December between 7:30–9:00pm, and Sunday 2 December between 12:00–1:30pm, in the Lounge of the Melkite Catholic Centre, 80 Waterloo Rd, Greenacre.

All are invited to attend.
