OMAN, UK to strengthen ties

MUSCAT: The Omani-UK Joint Working Group held its 10th meeting at the Foreign Ministry on Thursday. The Omani side was led by Sayyid Badr bin Hamad al Busaidi, Secretary General of the Foreign Ministry, while the UK team was headed by Tobias Ellwood, Minister of State for the Middle East Affairs. The meeting dealt with the existing friendly relations and the constructive cooperation between the Sultanate and the UK in various political, economic and cultural fields, as well as keenness of the two countries to continue support of those areas and encourage development of trade and investment partnership.

The two sides also exchanged views on current regional and international issues and expressed keenness of both sides to continue the hard work to come up with conciliatory political solutions through dialogue and peaceful negotiations to achieve security, peace and an environment where understanding and harmony prevail. The meeting was attended from the Omani side by Shaikh Yahya bin Abdullah al Fanna al Araimi, Head of the Economic Affairs Sector; Aflah bin Sulaiman al Ta’ee, Head of West Europe Department; Abdulaziz bin Mossa al Kharousi, Deputy Head of the Secretary General Office, while it was attended from the UK side by Jonathan Wilks, UK Ambassador to the Sultanate, and officials from both sides. — ONA
