BERN-- Kuwait's First Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah extolled in a speech Monday, the camaraderie shared between Kuwait and Switzerland.

Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled gave the speech at the opening of a ceremony to mark the 50th anniversary of Kuwaiti-Swiss diplomatic ties, with a number of senior diplomatic and political officials in attendance.

Moreover, he noted that commercial ties between both nations have made headway as the volume of trade between Kuwait and Switzerland was worth USD 4.47 billion from the years 2006-2015, adding that Kuwaiti investment in the European nation has risen exponentially, reaching USD 7.9 billion.

Speaking on the ceremony, Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled said that it is also an occasion to cherish both nations' shared values and beliefs, adding that their political ideologies have always mirrored one another's.

Furthermore, he underscored that both countries espouse the merits of justice and liberty while advocating peace and eschewing evil, pointing to a plethora of examples that demonstrate this, chiefly, their collective concerns over worsening humanitarian conditions in war-torn Yemen.

 

"Kuwait's progress in humanitarian development has always been a source of pride for us," Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled said," as he highlighted the formation of the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED), with the aim of assisting needy and hapless nations.

Meanwhile, he also pinpointed three international donors' conferences hosted by Kuwait to mitigate humanitarian suffering in Syria as a testament to the nation's benevolence, as these conferences had amassed aid worth USD 1.6 billion.

The Kuwaiti Foreign Minister also foreboded that ties between Kuwait and Switzerland are on course for increased development as both nations work to bring common goals to fruition.

BERN-- Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED) signed on Monday a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC).

Director of Operations at KFAED Marwan Al-Ghanim and Assistant Director General and Head of the Global Cooperation Department of SDC Pio Wennubst were the signatories of the MoU.

Moreover, a series of discussions was held between the Kuwaiti and Swiss delegations, headed by Kuwait's First Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, who is on a visit to Switzerland to attend a ceremony commemorating the 50th anniversary of Kuwaiti-Swiss diplomatic ties, and Swiss Foreign Minister Didier Burkhalter, respectively.

The discussions tackled ways to develop ties between both nations as well as regional and international developments.

Kuwait's delegation was comprised of Acting Assistant Foreign Minister for Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled's Office Affairs Ambassador Saleh Al-Loughani, Assistant Foreign Minister for European Affairs Ambassador Walid Al-Khubaizi, Kuwait's Ambassador to Switzerland Bader Al-Taneeb, CEO of the Kuwait Investment Authority (KIA) Bader Al-Saad, Director General of the Kuwait Direct Investment Promotion Authority (KDIPA) Sheikh Dr. Meshaal Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, Director of Operations at KFAED Marwan Al-Ghanim and a host of the Foreign Ministry's senior officials.

Switzerland, Kuwait open new chapter in ties -- ambassador

BERN-- The visit to Switzerland by the First Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah has resulted in opening a new chapter in the bilateral relations between the State of Kuwait and the European nation, said the Kuwaiti ambassador here.

Ambassador Bader Al-Tunaib, in a statement to KUNA, said the warm hospitality accorded to Minister Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled and his delegation reflected the Swiss Government's sentiments of admiration toward the Kuwaiti Government and people.

The Swiss leaders admire Kuwait's development policies and generous aid to needy nations, eye the Gulf State as a key regional "political and development player" and a prospected vital partner at the development level, Ambassador Al-Tunaib added.

Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled's meetings with the senior leaders, namely the president, the foreign minister and the parliament speaker, dealt with boosting the bilateral ties, stability in the Middle East, the refugees and human rights, he said, adding that the two sides concurred that dialogue and negotiations are the best avenues for restoring stability to the region.

The two sides have also tackled economic cooperation namely in the business sector.

Bern witnessed, on Monday, a ceremony marking the 50th anniversary of establishing the Swiss-Kuwaiti diplomatic ties. The event was attended by Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled and the Swiss leaders.
