Minister Jassar touts Kuwaiti pavilion at Expo Milano 2015

MILANO: Kuwait’s pavilion at Expo Milano 2015 has further asserted the nation’s “civil and humanitarian” image on the world scene, Minister of Public Works and Minister of Electricity and Water Ahmad Al-Jassar said yesterday. Talking to KUNA after his visit to the pavilion, held under the banner line ‘Challenge of Nature,’ Jassar stressed the significance of taking part in the universal event, the world’s third popular one after the World Cup and the Olympic Games.

He said the six-month exhibition that took off on 1 May offers a chance to more than 140 participating countries to show the best of their technology responding to the central theme of the event, namely, ‘Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life.’ The Expo expects to welcome over 20 million visitors to its 1.1 million square meters of exhibition area.

Major chapter

The theme of the Kuwaiti pavilion tells a major chapter of Kuwait’s history, a desert country with rare sources of water and tough weather conditions, that managed to overcome such a harsh environment through a comprehensive renaissance project, Jassar said.

The pavilion shows how Kuwait has countered natural challenges thanks to people’s will, he said, referring to the progress the country has achieved in desalination of sea water, for instance. The minister also emphasized friendly and cooperation ties with Italy, saying that Kuwait is keen through its pavilion on guaranteeing success of the Expo.

The pavilion has been designed in line with the Kuwaiti traditional aspects of architecture and cultural heritage, he said, noting that it highlights the country’s leading humanitarian and developmental role around the globe.

Jassar pointed to the UN last year honoring His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah as a ‘Humanitarian Leader’ and Kuwait as a ‘Humanitarian Center;’ a source of pride for Kuwaitis and Arabs. He also paid tribute to the Ministry of Information and Minister of Information and Minister of State for Youth Affairs Sheikh Salman Sabah Al-Salem Al-Humoud Al-Sabah as well as all the state institutions for their efforts in organizing the pavilion.
