THE Boado family was left rattled after a car crash damaged their Blacktown home last week.

But despite the horrific crash, it does not meet Blacktown Council’s requirements for the installation of safety barriers.

Frances Boado said her husband Judy was the only one present at their Newton Rd home on May 10 at 6pm when he heard a loud bang.

“My husband was talking to my sister-in-law on the phone in the kitchen,” Mrs Boado said.

“He thought the car went through the lounge but the car was just in front of the veranda — the metal fence had made the car stop.”

The car had struck the rear door of another car at the nearby roundabout at the intersection of Newton Rd and Allawah St before spiralling into the Boado’s front yard.

Mrs Boado said the driver then ploughed through their brick mailbox, causing bricks to crash through the glass door, the front wall and damage the family’s leather lounge inside.

“I’m just glad that the driver didn’t die or hit the tree in the front yard,” Mrs Boado said.

“My son Jude would usually be on the lounge but he was at a friend’s house. Lucky he wasn’t there or he might have been hurt.”

The family moved into the Newton Rd home in October with only one issue troubling the family — the roundabout.

Mrs Boado said she had witnessed a car and bus crash at the roundabout last year after the car had tried to speed through the intersection.

“That car was driving so fast through the roundabout,” she said.

“That’s the problem. Cars drive too fast through the intersection. They should always give way when they come to the roundabout because they need to think of the safety of others.”

Mrs Boado said she didn’t feel safe at the home after the recent accident.

“I’m not feeling secure in the house because an accident could happen there at any time,” she said.

“We would love something to protect us; maybe a fence or barrier to stop a car from going into our house.”

A Blacktown Council spokeswoman said in the past three years to June 2014, only one accident had been reported at the intersection. “A single reported accident does not meet the requirements for the installation of bollards,” she said.

Changes to reporting traffic accidents came into effect in October with police only required when someone is killed or injured, someone fails to stop and exchange information or a driver is suspected to be under the influence.

The recent crash follows two accidents on Newton Rd when a car drove through the safety bollards and into a home, near Balmoral St, in August and a car flipped into the front yard of the neighbouring home in November.
