Kuwait's Amir to participate in Milano Expo 2015 – 144 countries participating

KUWAIT: His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah accepted the invitation of the Italian president to participate in Milano Expo 2015 to highlight Kuwait’s role in cultural and humanitarian fields. “We will highlight the role of the State of Kuwait in the humanitarian work that has been acknowledged by the UN by honoring the Amir and awarding him the title of the Commander of the Humanitarian work,” Mohammed Boshehri, head of the technical team in Kuwait Expo, said. During a press conference held yesterday at Sheraton Hotel, Boshehri added that Kuwait has submitted a paper entitled ‘Challenges of Nature” which will be presented in the Kuwait section of Milano Expo.

“Kuwait was one of the first countries in the world to use seawater desalination technology,” Boshehri said adding, the youth will have the largest participation in the Expo by cooperating with the public institutions and voluntary associations through workshops on rehabilitation and training for young people to organize and actively participate in Milano Expo 2015. Boshehri also expressed his happiness for the UAE that will host the 2020 Expo.

Supreme committee Preparations to participate in this global event have been on for more than three years since December 12, 2012. The Ministry of Information formed the supreme committee to oversee the preparation. The participants are Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Public Works, Information, Electricity and Water, Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research, Kuwait University, Kuwait Foundation for Scientific progress, KPC, Environment Public Authority, Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development and General Authority for Investment. The Expo is the third most important public participation event in the world after the World Cup and the Olympic Games. Milano Expo will be located in about one million square meters and the expected visitors are more than 20 million from all over the world. Kuwait pavilion will showcase a combination between past and present, which reflects the identity of the Kuwaiti heritage, in a 2790 square meters area using environmentally friendly materials for building the pavilion with the possibility of re-use of them in the future. The materials have been designed by the Italian designer Itali Rota. The Kuwaiti pavilion is located among those of European countries.

Specific solutions Milan Expo will open its doors from May 1 to October 31, 2015, initiating a dialog with the public on issues that affect us all: feeding the planet and energy for life. The main goal of the Expo is to find specific solutions to ensure a continuous food supply for the entire global population, to develop new technologies and methods to safeguard our planet, as well as to allow people to experience different culinary cultures. More than 144 participating countries will display the best of their technology that offers a concrete answer to a vital need: being able to guarantee healthy, safe and sufficient food for everyone, while respecting the planet and its equilibrium.
