Australia’s Ambassador designated to Lebanon, Glenn Miles, visited today the newly renovated Our Lady of the Star Free Clinic in Jieh. The Australian Embassy provided Clinic with US$11,500 as part of its Direct Aid Program for the purchase of a new ultrasound machine.

The ceremony was held in the presence of the Director of St Charbel Convent, the Mayor of the Municipality of Jieh, the Mukhtar and other notable figures of the village.

Ambassador Miles commended Our Lady of the Star Free Clinic for its efforts to provide affordable and accessible health care services to the community.

Access to affordable health care impacts dramatically on the quality of life of patients, their families, and the broader community”, said Mr Miles.

Medical centres such as this one contribute significantly to reducing the level of suffering in the community. I hope that our support will enable many more people to benefit from the services Our Lady of the Star Free Clinic provides.”

The Australian Embassy’s Direct Aid Program targets projects that require a small injection of funds but have a significant impact on the lives of underprivileged people. Over a hundred organisations have benefited from the program since 2004.
