Exciting news for peace and justice for the Palestinian people

Exciting news for peace and justice for the Palestinian people

"This is exciting news for the Palestinian Cause as more and more nations around the globe speak of and actively drive the endorsement for a Palestinian State." MLC Shaoquett Moselmane said.

Ever since NSW Labor Conference this year adopted the motion in support of Palestine, Moved and argued for by Bob Carr, more and more Australian State Labor conferences have followed suit adopting a platform of support for a Palestinian Statehood.

Now we have NSW, Queensland, South Australia and other states to follow.

With a majority of State Labor Conferences supporting recognition of Palestine I hope we can have the motion adopted by National Labor Conference later next year.

In the mean time, Your continued support for a just and Viable Palestinian State with  East Jerusalem as its capital is vital to achieving peace in the Middle East.

Below is the latest motion adopted by South Australia. I hope you can cover it in your news papers and support the drive for Australia's recognition of the state of Palestine.

Text of motion:

67. AMWU

Palestine

That this Conference, in the United Nations’ International Year of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, supports the enhanced status of Palestine at the UN General Assembly and joins the international community in calling for an enduring cease fire, including an end to Hamas’ rocket attacks on sovereign Israeli territory, and the end of the blockade of Gaza.

Applauds the previous Labor government for its commitment to a two-state solution in Israel-Palestine and specifically: voting to enhance Palestinian status in the General Assembly; restating that the West Bank including Jerusalem is occupied under international law; opposing illegal Israeli settlements on occupied Palestinian land.

SA Labor recognises peace in the Middle East will only be assured by the foundation of a Palestinian state based on 1967 borders with agreed land swaps and security guarantees for itself and Israel. SA Labor welcomes the decision of the Palestinian Authority to commit to a demilitarised Palestine with the presence of international peace keepers including US forces.

If, however, there is no progress to a two-state solution, and Israel continues to build and expand settlements, a future Labor government should join 132 likeminded nations in conferring diplomatic recognition on the Palestinian Authority.
