Kuwait to participate in Milano Expo 2015

KUWAIT: Undersecretary of the Ministry of Information Salah Al-Mubarki said the Kuwaiti delegation for the Milano Expo 2015 aims to present a bright picture of the country. “It is very important for Kuwait to participate in this prominent international event,” Al-Mubarki, also Head of the higher committee in charge of Kuwait’s participation in the Expo, said in a statement yesterday, noting Kuwait’s ability to build a modern society, despite the harsh desert environment.

The delegation will present the achievement of naming Kuwait a Humanitarian Center and His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah as a Humanitarian Leader at the Expo, he said. Al-Mubarki hoped Kuwait would positively contribute to the researches and studies in the field of energy, water and food, while finding a way to protect these resources without harming the environment.

Meanwhile, Al- Mubarki said that the committee presented its final report to the Cabinet, providing details about Kuwait’s preparations for the Expo which will kick off in May 2015 until November of the same year. The committee consists of representatives of different ministries, Kuwait Oil Corporation (KPC), Kuwait Fund for Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED), Environment Public Authority, Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research (KISR), Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences (KFAS) and the Fatwa and Legislation Department.

The Expo is expected to attract over 22 million visitors, with the Italian government spending over euro 13 billion on the event’s facilities and infrastructure stretching over one million square meters. Expo Milano 2015 is a non-commercial Universal Exposition with various unique and innovative features.

It is considered as a process of active participation of international bodies in the theme of “Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life”. The Expo, running for 184 days, will host over 130 participants. Visitors will have the opportunity to journey through the field of nutrition, learning of the food and traditions of people all over the world.
