Full Speech of the Air Marshal Mark Binskin, VCDF and Representative of the Chief of Defence Force “On behalf of the Australian Defence Force, thank you for the generous invitation to celebrate the 36th UAE Armed Forces Unification Day. The UAE Armed Forces have come a long way in the last 36 years and – through many years of interaction and a F-16 ride with the UAE Air Force – I can personally attest to the professionalism, dedication and high level of capability that the Armed Forces display today. The last year has been a big year for the Armed Forces – Libya and Afghanistan operations being a large focus. Through these operations the world is now seeing the true capability and commitment of your Armed Forces. Armed Forces that are well led at many levels. At the highest level – and for a number of years, I have had the privilege of working with your Air Force and Air Defence Force Commander, who is here this evening. I can tell you: He demonstrates all the values, professionalism and dedication of those in the Air Force and entire UAE Armed Forces, He is well respected by his peers globally, And he is a good friend and very good leader Across the board, Australia and the UAE share a friendly and multi-faceted relationship based on: People to people links, Regular dialogue at many levels, including our Governor General, Minister for Defence and Chief of Defence Force, Mutual strategic interests, and A strong record of defence cooperation. We participate in a number of exercises, activities and operations with the UAE. For example, Al Minhad Air Base is crucial for the support of our operations in Afghanistan. And today UAE F-16 fighters are supporting ground operations in Afghanistan and I thank you for that commitment. So our strong bilateral relationship is one that we in Australia are proud of and one that I look forward to seeing continue to develop in the future. Thank you once again and I congratulate the UAE on this auspicious occasion and I wish everyone in the UAE Armed Forces all the best for the future.
