Prince Alwaleed Receives Letter from Sheikh Hamad Bin Jasim, Qatari PM

HRH Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal Bin Abdulaziz Alsaud, Chairman Kingdom Holding Company (KHC), received a letter from HE Sheikh Hamad Bin Jasim Al Thani, Prime Minister and Minister of Qatar’s Foreign Affairs. The letter was handed to HRH by His Excellency Mr. Ali Al Mahmoud, Ambassador of Qatar to Saudi Arabia during a meeting at Prince Alwaleed’s office on Tuesday May 15th 2012. The meeting was attended by Sheikh Jassim Abdulrhman Al Thani, Qatari Embassy, Mr. Mohamed AlMujadidi, Senior Executive Manager, Office of HRH the Chairman and Dr. Nahla Alanbar, Private Executive Assistant to HRH the Chairman.

During the meeting, the Prince and the ambassador discussed the warm friendship between their two countries, and referred to a number of economic and social issues. The meeting touched upon the latest developments in the GCC and globally. In conclusion to the meeting, Prince Alwaleed asked the ambassador to convey his cordial regards and convey a letter to HE Shiekh Hamad Bin Jassim Bin Jaber Al Thani.

In 2011, Prince Alwaleed visited Qatar and met with Sheikh Hamad. During the visit, Prince Alwaleed attended the opening ceremony of the Second Annual "Federation of Businessmen and the Union of Young Entrepreneurs" conference which was held at Sheraton Doha. The event was attended by HE Sheikh Hamad Bin Jasim, HE Sheikha Lubna bint Khalid bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Minister for Foreign Trade (UAE), HE Sheikh Khalifa Bin Jassim Bin Mohammed Bin Qassim Althani, Chairman of Qatar Chamber of Commerce, government officials, dignitaries and the media.

Furthermore, HE Sheikh Hamad held a private luncheon in honor of HRH Prince Alwaleed. Moreover the two discussed the long standing friendship between Saudi Arabia and Qatar, and Prince Alwaleed’s investments with Qatar through KHC.

Prince Alwaleed commented: “I commend the government and people of Qatar on the advancement made on the economic, investment and social fronts.”

During the trip in 2011, Prince Alwaleed and Princess Ameerah Al-Taweel, Vice Chairwoman, Alwaleed Bin Talal Foundation that is chaired by HRH attended the 4th Charity Gala Dinner “Reach out to Asia” (ROTA) with HH Sheikha Moza Bint Nasser Al Missned, Chairperson of Qatar Foundation on behalf of HH Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Al-Thani, Emir of Qatar. The occasion was also attended by HH Sheikha Al-Mayassa Bint Hamad Bin Khalifa Al-Thani, Chairperson of “Reach Out To Asia” ROTA, HE President Heinz Fischer, President of Austria and the First Lady Mrs. Margit Fischer. Moreover, Alwaleed Foundation donated SR7 million during the occasion for their core operations for the building of schools in rural and poor areas in Asia.                

In June 2010, HRH met with Mr. Ahmad Al-Sayed, CEO of Qatar Holding with an accompanying delegation. During the meeting the two discussed His Highness’s solid regional presence in the various sectors, including real estate, hotels and media, locally, regionally and internationally.

Furthermore in the same year, KHC announced an US$847 Million Transaction with Qatari Diar involving Fairmont Raffles Holdings International. Under the agreements, Voyager has acquired for a combination of cash and other consideration a 40% shareholding in FRHI. In addition, QDHP has undertaken to provide FRHI with a number of future management contracts for hotels that will be branded either Fairmont, Raffles or Swissotel. In 2006, Kingdom and Colony completed the acquisition of Fairmont Hotels & Resorts which was combined with the Raffles Hotels Group for $5.5 billion.

Moreover, His Highness’s investments in hotels through Kingdom Holding include the management of the Four Seasons Doha, Movenpick Doha and Movenpick Doha Tower and Suites, and in the financial sector through Citigroup. Furthermore, Raffles manages the Le Royal Monceau in Paris.

In April 2010, HRH attended the “FGCCC Outlook, Leading the Next 30 Years” Gala Dinner with HH Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Al-Thani, Emir of Qatar, HE President Michel Sleiman of Lebanon and HH Sheikh Hamad Bin Jassim Bin Jabr Al-Thani Qatar's Prime Minister and Foreign Minister on Tuesday April 6th 2010 in Doha, Qatar. The event was held under the patronage of the Emir of Qatar.

In 2009, Prince Alwaleed and Princess Ameerah attended the 3rd Charity Gala Dinner “Reach out to Asia” (ROTA) with HH Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Al-Thani, Emir of Qatar and HH Sheikha Moza Bint Nasser Al Missned.

In 2005, Prince Alwaleed made a contribution through Alwaleed Bin Talal Foundation during the charity dinner ceremony held in Doha to aid afflicted areas in Asia as part of the Helping Hands Initiative for Asia.
