John Ajaka Appointed As Deputy Speaker of The Parliamentary Councils of The Commonwealth

Uganda - Parliament Speaker of the State of New South Wales, Jean Ajaqa (of Lebanese origin), was elected as Deputy Speaker of the 35-nation Commonwealth Alliance's Parliament. The Council is known as the "Executive Committee of the Parliamentary Commonwealth Organization" and the election took place at the recent Commonwealth Meeting in Uganda.

"The battle was not easy. I won with a large majority and I am proud to represent Australia's largest state parliaments," said Ajaka following his election

In an issued statement by the executive committee, it indicated that "Jean Ajaqa, Head of the Legislative Council of the State of New South Wales, was elected to the post of Vice-President of the Executive Committee of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Organization during the 46th General Assembly of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Assembly at the 66th Parliamentary Conference in Uganda. Members of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Organization (CPA) approved the appointment of the Speaker of the Legislative Council of the Parliament of New South Wales, Jean Ajaqa, as Vice-President."

"The position of vice president is limited to one year and the holder is also a member of the organization committee. The CPA Vice President is selected from within the executive committee of the organization and remains a regional representative of the organization," the statement indicated.
