COTSIS AND KAMPER JOIN FORCES TO FIGHT FOR LIFTS AT BARDWELL PARK STATION

April 28, 2017

Member for Canterbury Sophie Cotsis and Member for Rockdale Steve Kamper have today jointly launched a petition calling on the Government to deliver lifts at Bardwell Park Station.

Bardwell Park Station, which sits on the border of the Rockdale and Canterbury electorates and services both communities is currently difficult to access for people with disability, the elderly and parents with young children due to the steep flight of stairs leading down to the platform.

Freedom of information requests show that Bardwell Park Station has been excluded from the Government’s program of Easy Access upgrades entirely, despite significant populations of older residents who would benefit from the upgrade in both Bardwell Park and Earlwood.

The local Members of Parliament, Sophie Cotsis, Member for Canterbury, and Steve Kamper, Member for Rockdale, believe it will take a joint effort from both communities to get the Government to pay attention. Quotes attributable to Sophie Cotsis:

“The residents of our two communities deserve access to their own train station, it’s simply not good enough that the Berejiklian Government doesn’t even have Bardwell Park Station under consideration.”

“Young families, older residents and people with disability are being forced to climb up and down a very steep flight of stairs just to access their local train station, and it’s just not good enough.”

“Just because Bardwell Park Station doesn’t just service one electorate doesn’t mean that it should be ignored by this Government.”

Quotes attributable to Steve Kamper:

“Just about every station in Sydney has either been upgraded or at least considered for future work or planning – but not Bardwell Park. I’m very disappointed that this Government doesn’t seem to care about the community here around Bardwell Park.”

“Bardwell Park Station has been ignored for too long, and we’re fighting to fix that.”
